yesterday i switched the xorg server on my debian box to use the
nvidia (closed) driver, that i built and installed with the nvidia
installer, but i have a problem

it looks like some fixed width fonts, namely vera/dejavu sans mono,
are rendered with hollow boxes in place of spaces, *when* they are
used as non-TrueType fonts - afaict, NO other fonts have this problem

it seems to me that i have been unclear, let's try an example:

- start xterm with "-fa mono-12", spaces are blank
- start xterm with "-fn '-*-dejavu sans mono-medium-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-m-*-*-*'",
spaces are hollow boxes

if i write the string "sde poll" on the second xterm, i see the fixed
width equivalent of

X is xorg's 7.0 , nvidia driver is NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8762, freetype
is libxft2 2.1.8.2-8

any help...
