i use a 1400x1050 modeline [1,2] with the nv driver that comes with
XFree[3], but today i fancied to install the nvidia driver from the
nvidia site [4], but the new driver refuses to run the display at that
resolution because

" hsync range ( 1784 - 1464 ) = 320 is > 256 "
(i'm sorry but i have uninstalled the driver and i can't exactly
recollect the precise wording i found in the log file...)

what i'd like to know? as my monitor and my video card are perfectly
capable of using an hsync range (?) of 320 (i'm running the old "nv"
driver now, and everything is ok), is there something i could do to
get the nvidia driver to bypass this limitation? no documented driver
options seem appropriate, and it's not open source...
