    [1] Ssh is built on ssl. You can find OpenSSL from various spots, or
    you can wade through RFC2246. (The former is arguably simpler. :-) )

    [2] XP does not have X, natively. You can of course acquire the X Window
    System from many vendors, Cygwin/XFree86 among them. You'll also
    need some sort of software development kit -- for Cygwin/XFree86,
    it comes with gcc and header files. I've built a small Athena-based
    application on Cygwin/XFree86 on Windows so it's not difficult,
    though it will require X to run, either a local XFree86 server
    or remotely.
