Thread: Slow keyboard repeat in X after upgrade to 2.6

  1. Slow keyboard repeat in X after upgrade to 2.6

    Well, the subject pretty much says it; I finally updated from a 2.4 to a
    2.6.19 r6 kernel (gentoo distribution) and now my keyboard repeat is
    really slow, in X (Xorg). Not in the boot console, just X.
    ANyone know what's going on?
    I didn't do any "nice" hacks with xorg.

    Thanks for any tips,

    X can have a separate keyboard repeat rate from the console's.
    "xset q | grep 'repeat delay' " will tell you what your X repeat rate
    is. "xset r rate X Y" will set the repeat rate such that there is a
    delay of X milliseconds before repeat starts and Y key events per second
    will be sent. "xset r rate 400 30" works well for me, YMMV.

    KDE and GNOME have nice pointy-clicky frontends for this sort of thing.
    KDE Control Center->Peripherals->Keyboard . HTH,

    Thanks!..I wonder why this only happened with 2.6 though (I never
    recompiled X)
    Seems to be a perfect rate for me too

    Granda... IMHO 200 400 is best And this is reason why KDE setup for
    that is not good, it dont allow speeds <250 ms and rates >30.
