  1. 64-bit Fedora Core 2 on AMD64 - Can't start X

    Hello all,
I'm using a brand new AMD Athlon 2800 64-bit processor on MSI
motherboard with onboard VIA graphics card. The monitor is Samsung
SyncMaster 793S. The problem is, 64-bit Fedora Core 2 is unable to
detect my monitor. Even "Generic CRT Display 2024x768" won't work. But
it's working fine with FC2 32-bit version. The error log says "Screen(s)
found but none of them has a usable configuration". What could be the
possible problem? I've even tried using my 32-bit xorg.conf on 64-bit
xorg.conf, but no success. Here's the relevant portion of my xorg.conf
    ---------------------------
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "Monitor0"
    VendorName "Monitor Vendor"
    ModelName "SyncMaster"
    DisplaySize 310 230
    HorizSync 30.0 - 71.0
    VertRefresh 50.0 - 160.0
    Option "dpms"
    EndSection

    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Videocard0"
    Driver "vesa"
    VendorName "Videocard vendor"
    BoardName "VESA driver (generic)"
    EndSection

    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen0"
    Device "Videocard0"
    Monitor "Monitor0"
    DefaultDepth 24
    SubSection "Display"
    Viewport 0 0
    Depth 24
    Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
    EndSubSection
    EndSection
    -----------------------------------

ps:- I couldn't find a seperate newsgroup for 64-bit Linux. Please let
    me know if there's one.

I do not think you can use the 'vesa' driver at that depth.
Change the depths to 16 and you should be fine.

But the same config works fine on with 32-bit Fedora. I'm currently
    running 32-bit FC2 on my AMD64 :-(
