    I got a Dell GX270 with an integrated 82865G graphics. So far I'm unable
    to get my resolution beyond 640x480. All attempt to raise the resolution
    only got me a bigger desktop with the same 640x480 screen.

    1. I have googled around and unable to find a satisfiable solution
    2. downloaded/installed the latest driver from Intel and turn on DRI
    3. used both xf86config and the Xdrake (from Mandarke 10.0)
    4. manually edit the XF86Config-4 file to add modeline/modes etc.
    5. tried xvidtune and it said the chipset is not tunable.
    6. knoppix3.6 started with the same 640x480 resolution then entered
    a meditating mode (stucked) after the KDE was up.

    I'd much appreciated if anyone can provide a pointer.

    This seems to be what you're looking for, I found it by googling: "Dell
    GX270 linux", this was the first entry. It would appear that a change
    in the BIOS mangled things. I've seen something similar occur on a
    Sony Vaio. A workaround is included in the post (downgrade the bios).

    Much thanks! This indeed was the source of my trouble. Once change the
    BIOS the screen resolution restriction disappeared.
