Re: /var/X11R6/lib - X

This is a discussion on Re: /var/X11R6/lib - X ; .... although I'd still be interested in knowing if /var/X11R6/lib (a soft link to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11) is cruft that can be removed....

    This is impossible to answer in the affirmative.

    X usually links without the -rpath options (if you use imake), which means
    that /etc/ld.so.conf will determine where the libs are found -- you might
    want check what they have put there.

    But who knows what others have put in their link options. Cruft is far
    easier to create than remove.

    .... so I tried "rm -rf /etc/X11R6" and rebooted. So far, everything's
    still working (X server, Gnome, Fvwm, Mozilla, xterm). So, I guess it
    was cruft.
