  1. Network and Sharing Center Issue - Vista

    Here is my situation.

Strong PC with AMD Athalon Processor 2 Gigs RAM. Have a Westell 327W DSL
Modem/Wireless router. I am using a small workgroup setting on a home
network. Workgroups are named the same on all PC 2 PC's are hardwired, One
Wireless. The Hard Wired PC I have is running Windows Vista 32-bit home
edition. Can connect to the Internet just fine. The little network Icon in
my tray has a red X through it. It's balloon says "Connection Status:
Unknown. Server execution failed". I am trying to launch the Network and
Sharing Center and it takes MINUTES to load and I am unable to change ANY of
the settings. When it finally loads it states the following statistics...

    Network and Sharing Center

    Network = Unknown

    Server execution failed

    Sharing and Discovery
    Network Discovery = Custom
    File Sharing = On
Public Folder Sharing = On (Read only)
    Print Sharing = On
    Password Protected Sharing = Off
    Media Sharing = Off

The thing of it is...I can't change ANY of these settings...I can't even
close Network and Sharing Center. It just hangs there and I have to close
it with Task Manager. When I look at it in running application it says it's
running and I expected it to say (Not responding) yet It is just hanging
there and when I click End Task, then I get it is not responding blah, blah,
blah and then it closes when I click end now.

My question to the group is this...Is there anyone to just re-install or
repair Vista Networking??? I dread the thought of stripping this PC
again...Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.
P.S. Vista is COMPLETELY current. Every possible update installed.

    -Greg

    Hi
Take a look at the device manger and make sure that the Network Card is
installed correctly, and there is No installation conflict.
This is taken from WinXP, Vista would show similar screen,

Nah...Checked that stuff first. I can see mapped drives on other PC's. and
I can see shared drives on the PC that I am having these issues from other
PC's in the workgroup...Just don't understand these bogus errors

    Thanks Jack

Maybe you'd want to try the SP1 RC - the RTM indeed has *some issues*...

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/w.../bb738089.aspx

    Also, visit microsoft.public.windows.vista.networking_sharing NG.

Well, your concern is understandable - but then how we can blame MS
for bugs in Vista? They do us a favor by letting us try it and report
    issues before it's too late.
( unfortunately, now is already too late for code changes,
but still finding issues early could allow to find a work-around...)
