Thread: Alert framework limitations

  1. Alert framework limitations

I am interested in using the Alerts framework for broadcasting outage messages on our intranet portal, but in reading the [documentation | http://www-128.ibm.com/developerwork...uz/index.html] it sounds like this has a couple of limitations that may prevent us from using. I'd like more information on these:

It says it does not support SSO, but yet it also talks about assigning portal persmissions so it sounds like it would use the normal portal security. What does this limitation mean?

It says it does not work in a clustered environment. Why is that, and is there any way to allow it to work in a clustered environment?

These sound like pretty major limitations to me.

Are there any other portlet options out there for doing these types of alerts?

    Thanks!

well the SSO issue is kind of a missnomer, but the main thing is the alerts are placed into memory if I remember correctly and that is why it does not work in a cluster. You would be better off creating your own portlet service you deploy and then it could pull from a db and display them in the theme as necessary
