Thread: Start server script fails with input line too long message

  1. Start server script fails with input line too long message

I'm using WAS V6.1 on Windows. I have created a start server script by using the -script option on the startserver command. However when I run the script, I get the message: The input line is too long.
I've already tried editing the script to decrease the length of the path names using %WAS_HOME% etc, but I'm still getting the error.
Has anyone encountered this same problem and found a workaround?

  2. Re: Start server script fails with input line too long message

Hi, which line does it think is too long? It would help if you posted it.

The line from the script file is:

Sorry--that last post of the line was incomplete...The line is as follows:

Here's a sure-fire workaround: use Linux instead of Windows.

  7. Re: Start server script fails with input line too long message

    Hi Brian,
I am using Windows 2000 Server SP4. Yes, I ran the script from the command prompt (cmd.exe)

  8. Re: Start server script fails with input line too long message

Hi, Windows 2000 has a limit of 2046 characters in the command line. Your text string is 2247 characters. You need to lose 201 characters.

If you don't care the script is going to be in the /bin directory, then I would just copy and modify the startServer.bat script to something like the following:

    call "%~dp0setupCmdLine.bat" %*
    SET PATH=%WAS_PATH%
    "%JAVA_HOME%\bin\java" %WAS_TRACE% %WAS_DEBUG% %CONSOLE_ENCODING% "%CLIENTSAS%" "-classpath" "%WAS_CLASSPATH%" "-Dws.ext.dirs=%WAS_EXT_DIRS%" "-Djava.util.logging.manager=com.ibm.ws.bootstrap.Ws LogManager" "-Djava.util.logging.configureByServer=true" %USER_INSTALL_PROP% "-Dwas.install.root=%WAS_HOME%" "-Dibm.websphere.preload.classes=true" "com.ibm.ws.bootstrap.WSLauncher" "com.ibm.ws.management.tools.WsServerLauncher" "%CONFIG_ROOT%" "was61host01Cell01" "was61host01Node01" "server1" %WORKSPACE_ROOT_PROP%

Long shot but might be worth a try.
See if the instructions to change the environment size at might help.

    Specifically thinking about adding
    SHELL=%systemroot%\system32\command.com /e:3000
    or something like that.

    Cheers,
