Thread: Not able to ping FEC1

  1. Not able to ping FEC1

    Hello All,
    I am working on Vxworks 6.6 with the BSP given by
    windriver. Following is the details....

    VxWorks
    Copyright 1984-2007 Wind River Systems, Inc.
    CPU: RAD ETX-201 Board - PowerPC 870
    Runtime Name: VxWorks
    Runtime Version: 6.6
    BSP version: 2.0/1
    Created: Jun 23 2008, 13:27:26
    ED&R Policy Mode: Deployed
    WDB Comm Type: WDB_COMM_END
    WDB: Ready.

    ihave two fec, one if debug port and other is used for user data
    port.

    i did following to make fec1 up.....

    ipAttach (1,"motfec");
    ifconfig ("motfec1 inet 172.17.173.115 netmask 255.255.255.0 up");
    routec ("-silent add default 172.17.173.1"); //To add the Gateway.

    Following is the ouput of ifconfig

    -> ifconfig "-a"
    lo0 Link type:Local loopback Queue:none
    inet 127.0.0.1 mask 255.255.255.255
    inet 224.0.0.1 mask 240.0.0.0
    UP RUNNING LOOPBACK MULTICAST
    MTU:1500 metric:1 VR:0 ifindex:1
    RX packets:0 mcast:0 errors:0 dropped:0
    TX packets:0 mcast:0 errors:0
    collisions:0 unsupported proto:0
    RX bytes:0 TX bytes:0

    motfec0 Link type:Ethernet HWaddr 00:20:d2:2a:b6:31 Queue:none
    inet 172.17.173.112 mask 255.255.255.0 broadcast
    172.17.173.255
    inet 224.0.0.1 mask 240.0.0.0
    UP RUNNING SIMPLEX BROADCAST MULTICAST
    MTU:1500 metric:1 VR:0 ifindex:2
    RX packets:14 mcast:1 errors:0 dropped:1
    TX packets:3 mcast:0 errors:0
    collisions:0 unsupported proto:0
    RX bytes:1058 TX bytes:197

    motfec1 Link type:Ethernet HWaddr 00:20:d2:2a:b6:c3 Queue:none
    inet 172.17.173.115 mask 255.255.255.0 broadcast
    172.17.173.255
    inet 224.0.0.1 mask 240.0.0.0
    UP RUNNING SIMPLEX BROADCAST MULTICAST
    MTU:1500 metric:1 VR:0 ifindex:3
    RX packets:0 mcast:0 errors:0 dropped:0
    TX packets:1 mcast:0 errors:0
    collisions:0 unsupported proto:0
    RX bytes:0 TX bytes:42

    value = 0 = 0x0

    After this I am not able to ping fec1...........Is there something I
    am missing?

    Yes, there's something very important you are missing: you put both of
    your FEC interfaces on the same subnet (172.17.173.0/255.255.255.0).
    You can't do that. They have to be on different networks.

    I'm not going to go into detail as to why you need to put each
    interface on a separate subnet, because that really has nothing to do
    with VxWorks.
