Thread: OpenVMS and the RSA ACE server, support and NAT issues

  1. OpenVMS and the RSA ACE server, support and NAT issues

I have heard that the RSA ACE server (for token based two factor
authentication) is no longer supported on OpenVMS as of 2001. But I
have no other details. It is very hard to find anything out from the
RSA site. I wonder if anyone reading this has used or is using ACE
    with VMS.

There are two issues for me (well, my client actually):

    1) The version of ACE we are currently using on VMS 7.2 has a problem
when addresses get NATd. The ACE protocol uses messages that include
IP addresses. These addresses can get mis-interpreted when NATing
occurs. Apparently this is fixed in a later version. But which
version? And is that version available for VMS?

    2) Is there really no support available for ACE on VMS? If so then
what is the most recent version of ACE available for VMS? Which
version of VMS is it available for?

    Regards,

    Andrew Marlow

Perhaps you need to look at alternatives. I see that Process Software
    VAM
    http://www.process.com/VMSauth/index.html
" * Protects applications from unauthorized users
    * Integrates seamlessly with any OpenVMS application
    * Fits into your existing RSA SecurID, LDAP, or RADIUS
    infrastructure
    * Provides OpenVMS operating system authentication
    * Certified RSA Security partner
    "

I've not used it myself but at least it is supposed on current and
    older versions of VMS.

Thanks for the offer but unfortunately this is not an option for me.
Use of ACE is mandatory but in the long term we are trying to get rid
of VMS. Hence we should not pick technologies that tie us further to
    VMS.
