  1. Point Secure and SQL admin toolset spam

If you gave Point Secure your email address when you tried their Free
Patch Analyzer then you probably received an email today from
idera.com with the subject "NEW! SQL admin toolset: public BETA
available." Since the email came to an address that was only given to
Point Secure I thought that maybe they had the address list stored on
an unsecured machine, or that they actually sold their mailing list (I
am not sure which would be the worst of the two evils). But then I
checked the whois information and I see that Point Secure is listed as
the technical contact for idera.com. Compare Alan Lee's email address
to the address of Technical Support.

I guess the Free Patch Analyzer was not really free.

    Well spotted!

I wondered about that spam message

  3. Re: Point Secure and SQL admin toolset spam

I am the marketing director at BBS Technologies. I handle marketing
for both PointSecure and Idera. Unfortunately, in my haste to announce
Idera's new SQL admin toolset today, when I pulled the email list, I
forgot to filter out the PointSecure emails. So -- as you already
know -- when Idera's announcement went out today, it went to everyone
    at Idera AND PointSecure.

Please understand that this was an honest (albeit airheaded) mistake
on my part -- I apologize. I will make sure it doesn't happen again.

If you'd like to drop me an email with your address, I'll be happy to
send you a PointSecure hat as an apology.

    Is it a pointy-headed hat?

I think I'm the one that supposed to be wearing the pointy headed
hat! The ones we give away are just simple ballcaps.
