I finally got my cluster upgraded to MultiNet 5.0 (with all patches
applied) this past weekend:

$ mu sh/ver
Process Software MultiNet V5.0 Rev A-X, AlphaServer 4100 5/533 4MB,
OpenVMS AXP V7.3-2

However, a command procedure (included below) using SYSMAN that I have
run in batch mode for a *long* time caused problems two different times
within the first couple of days (but not every time it ran). The
problem was excessive CPU consumption while in SYSMAN, and not ever
completing the SYSMAN step in the procedure. Does this ring any bells
for anyone?

Here's what I've been running:

> $ yyyymmdd = f$cvtime(,,"date")
> $ if f$mode().eqs."BATCH" then goto batchmode
> $ mcr sysman
> set env/node=(cougar,iceman)
> do pipe mu show/conn | search sys$input syn_rcvd
> exit
> $ goto finished
> $batchmode:
> $ define sys$output sys3:[connelly]syn_rcvd.tmp
> $ write sys$output f$cvtime()
> $ mcr sysman
> set env/node=(cougar,iceman)
> do pipe mu show/conn | search sys$input syn_rcvd
> exit
> $ deassign sys$output
> $ open/read in sys3:[connelly]syn_rcvd.tmp
> $ count = 0
> $loop:
> $ read/end=done in line
> $ if f$locate("SYN_RCVD",line).lt.f$length(line) then count = count + 1
> $ goto loop
> $done:
> $ close in
> $ if count.ge.18
> $ then open/write mesg sys3:[connelly]syn_rcvd.count
> $ write mesg "SYN_RCVD attack count = ''count' at
> ''f$cvtime(,,""hour"")': ''f$cvtime(,,""minute"")'"
> $ close mesg
> $ pmdf send sys3:[connelly]syn_rcvd.count
> "xxxxxxxxx@pager.beeperpeople.com"
> $ pmdf send/subject="SYN_RCVD attack count = ''count'"
> sys3:[connelly]syn_rcvd.tmp connelly
> $ delete sys3:[connelly]syn_rcvd.count;
> $ if f$search("sys3:[connelly]syn_rcvd.''yyyymmdd'").eqs.""
> $ then copy sys3:[connelly]syn_rcvd.tmp
> sys3:[connelly]syn_rcvd.'yyyymmdd'
> $ else append sys3:[connelly]syn_rcvd.tmp
> sys3:[connelly]syn_rcvd.'yyyymmdd'
> $ endif
> $ endif
> $ if p1.nes."" then
> submit/norestart/nolog/noprint/nonotify/param="repeat"/after="+0:15"
> watch_syn_rcvd
> $finished:
> $ exit
