I have many suggestions

1. edit sqlnet.ora add the following line

break_poll_skip=1024

2. install the latest Kernel,ucxdriver, and ucx emulation ecos.

3. If you still have a problem we have seen a site where the only
resolution for them was to upgrade to Oracle 9i I assume anything greater
than that as well.

4. of course you could always open a case with us.

In cases 1 and 3 this was regarding 8.1.7.4 not sure how that applies to
8.1.7.3
