Because I seem to remember from long ago that I heard that F77 was
derived from F4+.
It's definitely not the same product, but there are several places where
it seems to be implied that F4+ and F77 are related, including some
places where the names have just been replaced but missed in a spot or
two in other documentation I've read.
Heck, F77 retain a lot of DEC special extensions that were created in
F4+, which is not in any standard anywhere. Maybe need for backward
compatability made it neccesary anyway, but it seems silly to redo a
compiler from scratch when you have one which almost already have it all
in place.
