RAID 1 as implemented in Windows 2000 just does mirroring. I don't see any
evidence that the OS is optimizing performance by attempting simultaneous
reads from both of the mirrored devices. In hardware RAID 1, you get a big
performance advantage because the controller can have parallel read
operations on the two drives.

Does Veritas' Volume Manager overcome this limitation in the Windows 2000
RAID 1 implementation and attempt to improve performance when reading data
from the mirror?
