Why is DRL Log disk useful?
Do I misunderstand something? If you know the answer, please help me out with
Can someone explain to me why I would want a Log disk on a Raid-5 volume?
It seems to slow down the writes.
In exchange for this price, what do I get? If one of the subdisks fails,
it can be reconstructed from the data and parity info on the other subdisks,
so my data is safe with or without a Log disk.
Re: Why is DRL Log disk useful?
DRL will slow down your system. It is use to enhance the process of ur recovery.
For example, if the volume shutdown unclear. It will take long time to do
fsck during next boot process because it will check the entire volume. But
with DRL, system just have to check the small amount of data in DRL, do small
However, u can still run the volume fine without DRL.
Hope this solve ur question.
