  1. Sense Key error

Trying to make sense of this error. Can anyone tell me where it's going wrong?
either hardware or software?. I've tried power-cycling the tape drive but
no go. Someone mentioned that the drive may need cleaning but i doubt it,
since when i try a manual backup the robot doesnt even budge.

I'm running Netbackup 3.2 on an Ultra 5 with a Scalar 220 with 1 drive.

    Here are the errors:

    Apr 17 21:57:49 backup tl8cd[380]: TL8(0) Initialize_element_status error
    Apr 17 21:57:49 backup tl8cd[380]: TL8(0) Sense Key: Not Ready (2h)
    Apr 17 21:57:49 backup tl8cd[380]: TL8(0) ASC 4h, ASCQ 8dh
Apr 17 21:57:49 backup tl8d[241]: TL8(0) going to DOWN state, status: Unable
    to initialize

    dave:

    try this:

    /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/tpconfig -d

this will display your robot and drive configuration. Chances are that your
robotic path is incorrect. Carefully examine the path then try your sgscan
from volmgr/bin make sure it is correct.

    If it is, then try:

    /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/robtest

    select the robot in question

once in the robtest try mounting a tape

    m s1 d1

    mount slot1 to drive

This will tell if the physical is working. Give this a try.

  3. Re: Sense Key error

Basically, it's exactly what it says, NetBackup can connecto to the robot, but
it can't init it because the robot returns "Not Ready" I would verify you robot
isn't in a "Manual Mode" , and see if it works from the robot console. However,
almost every time you get a sense key error, it's something wrong with the robot,
I would contact the hardware vendor. You may want to also check the firmware
    level.
