    All,
Is there a way to have NetBackup send an email only when a backup fails?
Also, is there a log file which shows the status of the backup jobs. So
far it appears that Backup Exec was stronger with notifications and logging..

    Chuck,

I noticed your email is "trw.com". I worked for TRW until we [Space and
Electronics] got bought by Northrop Grumman. I presume you work in the Automotive
    sector?

By filling in the admin field in the master console [get the properties of
the master server and select the "Global Attributes" tab], I get email notifications
of all backup job completions [successful or not]. I haven't bothered figuring
out how to parse it to just include failures. The subject has the status
code at the end so that's how I can quickly tell if it succeeded or not.

We wrote a script invoking "bpdbjobs -report" which shows all recent jobs
and made it available via a web page.

You might also want to check out backup_exit_notify script on the master.
You can tweak this script to send you an email in the event of a failure by
getting it to look at the exit staus code of the job.

    Chuck:

If you go to http://www.gurski.com/Netbackup you will find both Unix and
Window's scripts that you are seeking....
