  1. NetBackup DC 3.4 / Exchange 2000 file open failed(12)

I have an NT 4.0 Datacenter v3.4 server backing up an Exchange 2000 box, but
it dies right as it the tape becomes available for write. It gives me a
"file open failed(12)" error and bombs. Looking on the bpbkar log of the E2k
server, this is what I get:

  2. Re: NetBackup DC 3.4 / Exchange 2000 file open failed(12)

A similar problem happened to me with NT 4.0 and DataCenter 3.4...

Make sure the service on the client is started with the backup account and
    not the Local System account.

  3. Re: NetBackup DC 3.4 / Exchange 2000 file open failed(12)

I gave this a shot, and that didn't help. I've tried the backup account,
administrator account, created a new account with permissions, etc. I will
be moving the NetBackup server to 2000 this week, so maybe this might
    resolve itself.

    Thanks for the suggestion,
    -Kyle

  6. Re: NetBackup DC 3.4 / Exchange 2000 file open failed(12)

    Hi,
This has nothing to do with OTM or domain rights, we suffered exactly the
same error in 'bpbkar' as you are. We searched weeks and finally found the
solution to this problem ! When you use Exchange2000 you will have to use
the Exch2000 Directives in your file list! The following directives you
will see are standard Exchange 5.5 Directives (Microsoft Exchange Server:\Information
Store AND Microsoft Exchange Server:\Directory) !!!

Is your master server a unix machine add the following directives to the
    /usr/openv/netbackup/db/class_template/MS_Exchange/includes file:
    Microsoft Information Store:\First Storage Group
    Microsoft Information Store:\Second Storage Group
(as many as storage groups you have defined!)
Also add these directives to the includes file of you exchange class name:
    /usr/openv/netbackup/db/class//includes
For mailboxes you can still use:
    Microsoft Exchange Server:\Mailboxes or
    Microsoft Exchange Server:\Mailboxes\

Is your master server also a NT Box, you can type these directives directly
    in the filelist.

Then retry your backup, it should work.

Also NOTE that you will have to use the EXACT Exchange Server Hostname in
Netbackup as the client name or you will get RC71!

Hope this will help you out!

    Cheers

I had another kind soul send me an email with the exact solution you
mentioned, and it worked like a charm. There were still a few little config
issues to contend with, but those go quickly when you have the directives
    right.

    Thanks,
