Remote Agent service terminates unexpectedly.
We have a Backup Exec job that runs nightly to backup three servers and about
a dozen workstations: Backup Exec (version 8.6) is loaded on Server1, and
the job (which runs on Server1) backs up Server1, Server2, Server3 and the
workstations; Remote Agent is loaded on Server2, Server3 and the workstations.
The hard drive on Server2 is partitioned into drives C:, D: and E:. For
some reason, the Remote Agent service on Server2 stops periodically, causing
the job to perform a "standard" backup on all three drives.
Event ID 7031 appears in the system event log on Server2: "The Backup Exec
Remote Agent for Windows NT/2000 service terminated unexpectedly. It has
done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 0
milliseconds: No action."
Right before the above event (Event ID 7031) is written to the system event
log, a DrWatson message (Event ID 4097) is written to the application log:
"The application, , generated an application error The error occurred on
12/10/2003 @ 22:35:44.243 The exception generated was c0000005 at address
To add a slight twist: The hard drive on Server2 is partitioned into drives
C:, D: and E:. Even when the above problem DOESN'T occur, the following
message appears in the job log for the C: drive: "Unable to initialize Remote
Agent for Windows NT/2000 - performing standard backup."
I have tried the obvious: uninstalling and then re-installing Remote Agent
Can anyone suggest a solution?
