  1. Throughput issue with BE 9.0 on W2k server clients

    Hi,

Trying to backup NT4 SP6a and W2k SP4 clients onto a Backup Exec 9.0 build
4454 server across the network. The server has a LTO tape library attached.

Problem is the throughput. On the NT4 clients I can get 10GB per hour on
very slow machines (Pentium Pro and Pentium 2 400MHz) - very respectable.
However, on the W2k SP4 machines I tested, the throughput were only 1.8GB
per hour. I've checked the network settings to be 100Mb/s full duplex everywhere.
Also switched off all antivirus services before the tests. The servers are
    standard file/print standalone servers.

Anyone seen this before? How can I get it fixed?

    Thanks
    Kai

Interesting, I was getting great speeds on my wk2 server to server backups
until I went to sp4 HUM. Speeds are just about what you are reporting. Also
note that the local speeds are not what they used to be.

Did you get it fixed? Problem is I cannot uninstall SP4. Will upgrade to W2k3
    make it better?

    Thx
    Kai

It's pretty generic, but you can take a look at

  6. Re: Throughput issue with BE 9.0 on W2k server clients

    Ken,

This seems to have started acting badly after the upgrade to SP4 on the
servers. I have noticed a few things about this SP. One is it causes systems
to report that they are NT4sp6 I believe. I am getting errors that Norton
Speeddisk cannot run on NT4 for one.

Anyway, any other ideas will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  7. Re: Throughput issue with BE 9.0 on W2k server clients

    Kai,

I am moving from win2000 servers to the much superior Novell 6.5 servers. I
will not even look at Win2k3.

    Good luck with your "Upgrade"
