  1. OTMAN4 - wrong driver loaded

    Hi folks,

I have a recurring problem with with the Open File Manager on my Backup
Server and didn't find anything on the Knowledge Base yet. Maybe you have an
    idea?

Two weeks ago we had to re-setup our backup server again. Because of
licensing issues we had to install BackupExec 7.3 on a Windows NT 4.0
machine. After we had done this, we upgraded BE to 8.6 and afterwards
Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000.
Since the upgrade to Windows 2000 we receive this error:

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: Otman4
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 4106
    Date: 01.04.2003
    Time: 14:46:56
    User: N/A
    Computer: *******
    Description:
Wrong version of the driver has been loaded on this system
    Data:
    0000: 00 00 00 00 01 00 56 00 ......V.
    0008: 00 00 d0 ba 0a 10 00 e0 ..к...à
    0010: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........
    0018: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........
    0020: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........

I investigated this error message and found out that "OTMAN5" is the correct
driver for Windows 2000. I found several technotes on errors with Otman4,
but none in which is described how to change the driver to be loaded from
Otman4 to Otman5. Does anyone have an idea?

I believe that this is not that hard, but I really don't know how to resolve
    this issue...

    Thanks for helping!

    Sabine

  2. Re: OTMAN4 - wrong driver loaded

    Hello Sabine,

Are you having 8.6.3808 or 8.6.3878? ..you can upgrade from 3808 to 3878
    for free:
    http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/241035.htm

If you have 3878 then you can apply the Hotfix 12 :
    http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/245401.htm
this technote explains the correct procedure for your OTMAN4 problem ...follow
the procedure given in it completely.

    Hope it helps

    Hi Rod,

thanks for those hints they helped more than anything I tried before... Now
Otman5 driver is loaded corerctly, but still Otman4 comes up. Do you know
how to supress this driver from being loaded? is it sufficient to disavle
otman4.sys by renaming it? Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Sabine

    Hello Sabine,

Have'nt yet tried renaming the OTMAN4.SYS file after upgrading to hotfix
12 (because in Win 2K system it becomes irrelevant)
But you can rename the OTMAN4.SYS file as it is used with NT only ...It won't
interfere with the working of your Win 2K system.
Let me know if after renaming any error pops up

    Thanks

  5. Re: OTMAN4 - wrong driver loaded

    Hi Rod,

I renamed the otman4.sys to otman4.old and restarted my server. Now the
error message about "wrong driver loaded" doesn't appear anymore.

Thanks a lot for your assistance!

    Sabine

  6. Re: OTMAN4 - wrong driver loaded

    Hello Sabine,

there is a Hotfix 12 you can download. After you unzip this file you get
5 or 6 files. One of this files named otman4.sys and one otman5.sys. replace
the otman4.sys with the otman5.sys this should work.
