Getting data off DAT tape
A colleague of ours backed up some files onto a DAT tape using a different
server and backup software from the one that we use (Veritas Backup Exec
8.6 for W2k). Is there any way of getting this information of the tape and
onto our server? The data is not on our server so it's not a case of doing
a restore.
Thanks,

Re: Getting data off DAT tape
Thanks, but it's the same as my manual which unfortunately I'm not understanding
too well.
Basically, I have a DDS3 tape which I'm desperate to get onto a server.
If Veritas is unable to do this job, can I install other softwre that does
the same thing? As a one-off measure that is.

Re: Getting data off DAT tape
If your current hardware is compatible with the tape, then just insert the
tape, inventory, and catalog it.
Then browse to that tape in the Restore Selections pane (right click and
choose "Media View" if necessary) and select the data that you want.

Re: Getting data off DAT tape
Elizabeth,
If you create a new catalog with that tape, you should be able to then
restore from it. Go to the Media tab and create a new catalog with that
tape in the drive. It will then add it to the media and backup devices.
Then you should be able to restore.
