Thread: When does the archive bit change during a backup?

  1. When does the archive bit change during a backup?

Does the archive bit of a file on, say a full backup, change before the file
    is backed up or after?

  2. Re: When does the archive bit change during a backup?

I'd assume it was neither before or after but during, so as each file it
backed up, the archive bit is changed then and there. Otherwise BENT would
either have to stop at the beginning of the backup, change the archive bit
on every file on the system, and THEN start the backup, or once finished, it
would then have to go through the entire system again setting the bit.
