Thread: Log within SMTP notification is truncated

  1. Log within SMTP notification is truncated

    Hello,

I recently upgraded my BENT from version 7.3 to 8.6 (rev 3808).
I was delighted that with this version it is possible to
send notifications with pure SMTP (instead of MAPI).

I changed my BENT setup to send notfications, including
the job logs (see article with technote id 238072).

    The problems are:

    1.
The logs attached to the email are not complete. The log
files on the server are complete.

    2.
All "special" characters in the log files (I am using the
german version of BENT, so "german umlauts" are present)
are misinterpreted (so "" leeds to "▄" and so on).
IMHO this is because the logs are attached with "utf-8"
encoding. Is there any way to change this encoding to
    "iso-8859-1" or something similar?

I saw some older postings here with exactly the same
problems, but no answer at all...
    So starting a new attempt...

Hey, people at veritas, it can't be such a problem to
    clean up this misbehaviour ;-)

    Bye

Now I upgraded to build 3878, as adviced by veritas,
    but no effect.

Logs are still truncated, contents is still "corrupted"
    regarding special chars.

    Any help appreciated...

    Just nerved.
I have done a reply to veritas support, that "updating" BENT
to build 3878 has no effect, up to now no answer.

I'm considering whether it is meaningful to do such essential
things like a backup with software from a company, which is not
able to send emails via smtp from within there own program.

And, in addition, seems not to be able to fix the bugs.

By the way: I have a small command line program (BLAT), which
is able to send emails over smtp (including attachments).
And yes, this tool has the ability to choose the attachment type.

This program could be used in the before/after scripts of a job.

But how can I gain the information about the job (name, successfull
or not and so on)? Are there any parameters available to the
    before/after scripts?

I have taken a look in the documentation, but no success...

    Anyone any idea?
