    Hello all,

We had to buy a new DLT device. The problem is that with the new DLT we
could read tapes made by our old device but not write. So, we had to degauss
the tapes to reuse them. Now, if we use them with, for example, the backup
software from microsoft, the system ask us to prepare the tape ; this is
normal. But, as soon as we intall Backup Exec 8.6, our DLT device doesnt
accept the degaussed tapes anymore (with backup exec or another backup
    program).

Does exist a patch or is there a way to solve this problem ?

Per advance, thanks for your help

    Arnaud

There is no patch regarding this on the website but i would suggest that u
run a long erase on the tapes. if the device does not support it run a short
    erase.
    move to scratch media.

do the same from NTbackup. erase the tape and run a small bkup.
Backup Exec will probably be able to use the tape once NTBackup has used
    it.

make sure u have Backup Exec installed but the services stopped.
This way the vrts tape driver will be used and will allow for more compatibility
    later on.

I thank you for the advice,
I'm going to try that. For your information, if BE is installed, (services
stopped or not) I can not use any backup software with the tapes ....
So I need to run the backup program on a machine which has no BE installed.

once BENT services are stopped it releases the device thus allowing any other
    software to take control.
NTbackup should be ok to control the device.
any other 3rd party software will require a reboot.
make sure BENT services are then disabled.
