Thread: Creating a cleaning job

  1. Creating a cleaning job

Question on making a DLT cleaning job.

I see in BE 8.6 rev 3878 on the "Job Definitions" tab you can create a tape
    cleaning job.

When I do and run it I get a failed status:

    Unable to acquire media.
The media this operation is attempting to use can not be found. Please make
sure at least one slot in the robotic library is marked as a cleaning slot
in Backup Exec and contains a cleaning media.

    ^ ^ ^ ^ ^

I have my 10 tape DLT loader allocated in the following way:
Tapes 0-3 for daily tape backups
    Tapes 4-8 for weekly/monthly
Tape 9 is the cleaning tape.

Looking at the properties of the cleaning job, there is no place I can tell
it to use Tape #9 for cleaning. Am I missing this somewhere...?

    Thanks.

  2. Re: Creating a cleaning job

I've got the same problem with an HP SureStore 40x6????

  3. Re: Creating a cleaning job

Check the box in the properties of the slot to tell BE that this is a
cleaning slot. Put the cleaning tape in that slot with a cleaning tape label
    if that applies.

    Bob,

Can you be more specific....? Im not finding anywhere that there is an
option to do this. Is this on the "Devices" tab? I go to where I have the
tape allocated but I dont see any options for it.

    Thanks.

  5. Re: Creating a cleaning job

    Hello,

to asign a slot as cleaning-slot go to the device tab, right click on the
    slot you want,
you see properties. On the first sheet of properties you have a box to
    check, called
asign as cleaning slot (orsomething like this). check this box and it should
    work.

Im not sure I am seeing the same things you are..

Here is screen shot of my devices tab. Under TERABACKUPSERV --> Robotic
Libraries --> COMPAQ1 ---> QUANTUM 1, my cleaning tape allocation is
    COMPAQ1[0009..0009].

I will post another reply with my properties window when I click on that.

sorry but i forgot to say first mark the COMPAQ1[0009..0009] with the mouse
    cursor
then you should see the inventory in the right large window..and in the
right window you must right klick on
the slot (or media if inside)

I have the same problem; I have assigned slot 6 as a cleaning slot and I
have a cleaning tape in that slot. I have tried multiple tapes but always
    get the same error.
