  1. v8.60.3878 bengine.exe hangs at completion of job

The same problem started occurring in 8.50.3572, prompting us to
    upgrade.

The job log shows it is finished, but the activity monitor shows the
task, in the blue color, as Completed, not Scheduled, like it should.

It sits there at 96-99% complete done, however there is no activity.
The job log says the job is complete.

The BackupExec Windows NT services can't be shut down, they hang on
bengine.exe. If we kill that process, the remaining services will
shut down. Once the services are restarted, all is well ... until the
    next scheduled backup.

I just enabled SGMon to see if that gives us any info.

    Any ideas?

    More info ...

We don't have the "eject tape at end of job" enabled. We never have.

We aren't getting an alert to respond to.

If I right-mouse button on the "Completed" job (that still is running
at 99%), there is no option to Abort the job.

I'm having a similar mystery, did you get a result?
    I installed a copy of Backup Exec v8.6 rel3878 on a Win2K server. Worked
perfectly every night for a month or so then started hanging with an operator
    attention message
(Server: "xxxxx" Job: "Tuesday" Device: "Seagate 1") Please remove the
    media from the drive.
The status of the job is "loading media" & it will only queue, & never implement,
a cancel command. The jobs say they backed up 14.5GB as usual but then just
    stop.
I've checked the Veritas knowledge base & there's a few mentions of jobs
hanging, the most likely help is http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs192055.htm
except that implies "Eject media after job" which, like you, I don't have
    selected.
I have to either run BESTOP.bat & BESTART.bat to stop & start the services
to kill the job or get the client to reboot. Why's this suddenly started,
my first occurence was 16/5, the day you posted.

This was sent to me via Veritas e-mail support. I haven't tried it,
yet. It seems like a "delete everything, reinstall and try it again"
    type response.

    ----

In order to resolve the issue please perform the following steps:
As a preliminary step please update the MDAC components to V2.5 SP2.
Please refer the following URL to download MDAC.
    www.microsoft.com/data/

    - Close Backup Exec
    - Stop all Backup Exec Services
    - Rename Data folder [Path=\Program Files\Veritas\Backup Exec\NT\Data]

[Note: - You need to recreate job definitions, media sets, etc.]
    - Remove all temp files in Catalog folder[Path=\Program
    Files\Veritas\Backup Exec\NT\Catalogs]
    [*.TMP, *.SM, *.FDD, QTC*.*]
    - Start all the Backup Exec Services
    - It should create new Data folder
    - Perform inventory & cataloging again
    - Redefine media sets & job definitions
    - Launch Backup Exec

If build revision of Backup Exec 8.6 is not 3878, then please
    upgrade
    it using following link.
    http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/241035.htm
