  1. Same job fails for same reason every week

The job I have set to run each Wednesday on one of my servers
fails every week with the same message 'Overwrite protected'. I
have changed the tape for a brand new one and also created a new
job and media set with no overwrite protection period. Each week
the tape shows blue in that no overwrite period remains yet each
week the job fails. The identical job runs perfectly on 8 other
    servers. Any ideas please?

I don't know if you're running NT or Novell and which version, but we are
having similar problems on our Novell servers, but we found that it was a
tape drive problem. We found a work around which was to insert a new tape,
run an erase on it and then try it again, which temporarily has worked some
of the time but not all.

    What kind of drive?
How much data (if any) is backed up? IE, is this at the start of the
    job, or part way through?

It is an internal 4mm dat tape drive on a Dell Poweredge 4300 server. There
is data backed up and the job usually fails right at the end. The job runs
at 4.30 am and I have re-run the job manually when I arrive at work at 9.00
am. Usually, the job looks to be running fine and I have seen it reach at
least 98% on the verify before it fails. The tape drive was actually changed
about 6 months ago and this problem started at the beginning of February.
Veritas have come up with nothing.
