Re: BE 8.0: How to schedule an erase job?
Look in Backup Exec docs beadmin.pdf, read section "Backup Exec Command Line
Applet". Schedule call via NT's AT command.
However, you shouldn't need to erase a tape (I have never had to erase a
tape). With proper protection periods set, BENT will happily overwrite a
tape whose protection period has expired. BENT will also refuse to
overwrite a tape whose protection period has not expired. This is very
important to avoid accicentally overwriting (and erasing) backups you are
supposed to keep.
For example, if you do a restore from one of your archive tapes, you may
accidentally leave the tape in. If you are running an automatic erase job,
you can kiss your archive goodbye. What happens when you have to tell your
boss you erased the archive?
