  1. BNT7.3 Upgrade Build 2371 to 2575

    Hello everyone,

we have BENT7.3 build 2371 installed and we want to upgrade
to build 2575. My understanding of the accompanying docs is
that I have to do a new installation.

Want I want is a upgrade - keep my job settings, media list
etc. Does it mean I have to restore them after installation
by hand or will I be able to keep them?

    Any hints will be appreciated,

    Burkhard Kohl

Just install over the top, it'll carry forward all you local settings,
media set defs, job defs, tape catalogs, etc.

But also be aware that build 2575 has a couple issues that are fixed after
upgrade by applying applicable patches from the POST2575.EXE fix located on
    Veritas' download page.

  5. Re: BNT7.3 Upgrade Build 2371 to 2575

Not a problem. I had to learn this the hard way after upgrading from build
    2371 to 2575.

On a different note, about the question I asked you yesterday, do have any
idea under the sun why two jobs of my three nightly's would get about
10-16GB into them and then (according to the log) can't find any
directories. Almost like the socket gets dropped and can't reestablish. Copy
of log below. This is on a volume that is 67GB and out of that, 35GB is
free. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. (P.S. If I don't find
a solution by tomorrow, I am going to uninstall and reinstall BENT. Last
    ditch effort...)

  6. Re: BNT7.3 Upgrade Build 2371 to 2575

    Never had this problem.

I suppose that you've tried to access the directories while logged in as
    the BENT service account.

And not having OFO, is it possible that the OFO error is somehow
    related?

Yep, I can access these folders while logged in as the backup account and it
    does use the OFO.

    This one has me stumped.

Well, I have downloaded the German version. With the "German" filter
set, I don't see any Post-Patches. Does that mean I have to install
    the POST2575.EXE anyway?

At this time I can`t find any files on Veritas Download page.

  9. Re: BNT7.3 Upgrade Build 2371 to 2575

Well, the German 2575/revised file (BNT73I02) is dated 11/15/99, and the
POST2575 patch is dated 5/19/00. (agreed, the Filter for German only
files doesn't show the patch file)

If it were me, I'd download the patch and read the read-me to see if any
of the patches apply to my install. If so, I'd install it/them.

The readme for the BNT73I02 is quite clear - one should also apply
POST2575 and OFOFIX. My fault to have overlooked this section.

And a couple more issues that even post2575 doesn't fix. One of these
(repeated betopcat.idx corruption) has been hitting our server for
almost a year - only 2 weeks to go now before the case has been open
    for a whole year.
