  1. BENT 8.0

When one creates a backup job what exactly is BENT 8.0 doing when one
selects ALL DRIVES? It seems to take 5 minutes on a local machine which
only has about 11 GB to backup. Also when this job is actually run BENT
takes another 5 minutes to perform what it shows as a BACKUP SCAN before
the job actually begins. Is it trying to determine an estimated total
bytes that will be backed up? If so is there anywhere of turning this
    off?

From the main GUI select Tools\Options\General uncheck the "Display
    Progress Indicators" box.

If this is checked, BENT will scan all drives/databases in the job
description, to get an estimate of the total number of files/bytes in
the job. Then BENT can display the blue progress bar on the active job
page. If this is not checked, BENT will not be able to display the
indicator, but will start backing up almost immediately.
