  1. Compaq ML370 Proliant Server and Compaq TSL 9000 12/24 DAT Autoloader

My ML370 server is running NT Server 4.0 with the TSL 9000 12/24GB Dat Autoloader.

I cannot get Backup Exec v8.0 to recognise the device as a changer, only
    as a stans alone drive.

I have tried using the updated Compaq drivers for NT and the latest Veritas
drivers but still same result, drive appears only in 'Stand alone Drive Serction'

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

    Dear Simon,
You need to get the Autoloader module for BE to have it recognize or work
    with any Autoloader tapedrives

I am running Backup exec V8 for Wrindows200/NT. I beleive that the device
should be supported as an autoloader without any additional software.

I have enabled Autoloader support as I installed Backup Exec and can see
a section in the device list for changers. My drive however only shows up
    as a stand alone drive.

I am having the exact same problem on a Proliant DL380 with a TSL900. If you
figure it out let me know.

  7. Re: SOLUTION Compaq ML380 Proliant Server and Compaq TSL 9000 12/24 DAT Autoloader

    Here's what worked for me.

On the DL380 there is an integrated Array Controller with 2 channels. I
had my Cage plugged into the 2nd channel (the default) and I was plugging
the TSL-9000 into the 1st channel, which is the only other scsi connection
on the board. It turns out (according to Compaq) that the Integrated RAID
controller does not support multi-LUN devices. My solution was to remove
the RAID on a chip from the system board and adding another raid controller,
which the drive cage was plugged into (still leaving the tape drive plugged
into the system board). This leaves the on board controller as a standard
scsi device. Everything works just dandy now. One caveat...you may break
NT's boot.ini in the process...So have an out.

Another solution would be to add an additional standard SCSI card to the
system and run the tape changer from that. I know that everyone wants to
hear that any solution requires new hardware, but hey...it works.
