This may sound like a silly question, but you have gone into the Tools-->Notification
Setup in BE and set up notifications for various events (i.e. Job Succeeded,
    Job Failed, etc), right?

Your mail may just be in the outbox waiting to be sent out. Go into the backup
service account that you have created and open up your email program. The
mail may be sitting in the outbox.
I've had these problems at sites that do not have an Exchange Server. With
an Exchange Server, for some reason, the mail gets sent out, but without
an Exchange Server, the mail doesn't get pushed out in MS Outlook. Tell
    me if this was true.
