OK, I've just tried that by reapplying SP5, but it looks to have made no
difference.

I still get the file not found error when starting the job engine
manually.

Tech support suggested reinstalling MDAC as well as the service pack. Is
there any recommended version of MDAC to use, or should the latest (2.2
I
think) be fine?

Also do you need to install MDAC and the service pack in any particular
order?
