Thread: Backup job fails with I/O error

  1. Backup job fails with I/O error

We are using Veritas 7.3 2371 on Windows NT server.
When we try to run small jobs 30 K or so it works, but
if try to run larger backup jobs it runs for 2-3 minutes
copies around 2.0 MB of data and then gives an alert to
remove the media from device. When I respond OK to the
alert the job fails with an error message -

Storage device "HP 0" reported an error on a request to
    write data to media.

    Error Reported:
The request could not be performed because on an I/O
    device error.

If we are using a brand new tape then we do not get the
above error and backup runs fine.

Any idea what could be wrong. We have Overwrite option
    selected.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please reply at

    Thanks,

    Amit

Do you get any alert in the NT event log? (i.e. the device
\device\scsiport1 did not respond within the timeout period)

  3. Re: Backup job fails with I/O error

Yes there are alerts in NT event log with the same message. Do you
know what may be the probable reasons for this?

    Thanks,
