  1. Error 1050 in BE 9.1 - 1158.9

    Hi,

we had a power failure and then a crash of our Netware Server 6.5 SP6.

After the reboot of the server, BE aborts with the error message:
"error 1050 - unknown device driver init error".
I've changed nothing in the startup.ncf

Normally we saved on HP ULTRIUM tape.

The output of "list storage adapters" and
    "list devices" is like this:

I reinstalled Veritas Backup Exec Version 9.1.1158.9 but
no success. The start fails again.

Any ideas to solve my problem?

    Thanks

  2. Re: Error 1050 in BE 9.1 - 1158.9

We had a similar, but not the same, problem with an Ultrium Drive in our
server. We found that, when restarting the server, we had to first put
a pause command in the server.exe command of the autoexec.bat file in
the DOS partition. Sorry I can't remember the syntax here to do the
pause, but if it's done correctly, early in the server restart, a
message comes up on the server console that says something like "press
any key to continue loading." We then wait until the green light on the
Ultrium drive quits blinking and turns solid green. When it does, we
press the key and the rest of the NLMs load up. The problem you're
seeing is probably the CDM files (driver files for the Ultrium Drive)
not loading properly because the Ultrium Drive is "busy" (green light
blinking) when the CDMs try to load. If the CDMs fail to load, then BE
    won't load either.

  3. Re: Error 1050 in BE 9.1 - 1158.9

    Chips,

    thanks for your hint.
But this morning, I have found the solution for our problem.

The reason was our second autoloader with 8 cartridges
(SONY TSL-11000). This device needs a LUN handling.
Until this morning the autoloader was connected to the
same Adaptec SCSI-controller as our HP Ultrium Streamer.

Now I have physically removed the SONY autoloader (because
    we need it no longer).

    Then changed the startup.ncf:
    altered the line
    LOAD ADPU320.HAM SLOT=4 /LUN
    to
    LOAD ADPU320.HAM SLOT=4
    Now everything works fine again.

    Another solution could be:
    http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/189317.htm
to alter the settings of the adaptec controller
(BIOS Multiple LUN Support = YES), but I made not such a test.

    Thanks
    Bernhard
