Hang on uxaction.log
Hi,
Dispite the fact that the file uxaction.log is in the novell.nks file, the
server jumps to 100% utilization and requires a reboot everytime I try to
make a backup of the Netware File System.
Making a backup of just NDS is no problem.
Netware verion:
Netware 6.5 SP5 with TSA5UP19)
(without TSA5UP19 the problem also occurs).
BackupExec Versions:
Backup Exec for NetWare 9.1 Build 1158.9
Media Server = 1158.9
Ndmp Server = 1158.9
Nlm Client = 1158.9
Java Client = 1158.9
Drivers = 0011N023
Windows 9X agent = 5.030
MAC OS X agent = 5.045
UNIX agent = 5.046
OFO NW option = 9.5.501
RAWS/OFO NT option = 4691R.42
Can someone please help with this problem?
We don't have a valid backup for over a week now.
Kind regards,
Peter

Re: Hang on uxaction.log
How do you know that the problem is caused by UXACTION.LOG? Have you
tried editing the job to exclude this file to see if you still have the
same problem? Some other thing to check:
1. Anti-virus software: do you have any running on this server? If so,
try unloading it or disable outbound scanning.
2. Hyperthreading: is this enabled? If so, disable it as it can cause
problems on NetWare.
3. Check in Monitor-->Kernel-->Busiest Threads when the server hits
100% to see which NLMs are causing the high utilization.

When the job starts some NSS errors appear. These errors point to the UXaction.log.
Anti-virus is turned off during backup.
Processor is a P3 1000Mhz, no hyperthreading.
The busiest thread is a thread owned by SERVER itself.
After Googling some more I stumbled across this thread:
Forum/Group: novell.support.open-enterprise-server.netware.abends-hangs
Subject: NW65SBS-SP3 server stall: Related to snapshotpool??

I disabled OFO and the problem was gone.

OK, but disabling OFO isn't really a fix though is it? I think the real
issue is: why is the entry in NOVELL.NKS being ignored? Take a look at
the following TechNotes:

Good info! I didn't know about the [tab] causing problems. Probably
what I had done before that caused it to fail.

Yep, that has caught me out one or twice in the past as well :-)
