Thread: Ultrium drive not recognized

  1. Ultrium drive not recognized

    Hi

    My HP Storageworks Ultrium 232 is not recognized by Backupexec 9.2 Rev. 1391.

    I'am running Netware OES 6.5 SP4 on a HP ML 310 server. The OS can see the
    drive just fine, but not Backupexec - why?????

  2. Re: Ultrium drive not recognized

    Is this a new install of Backup Exec or have you replaced an existing
    drive? You might want to try:

    BESTOP
    Rename sys:\bkupexec\mm to mm.old
    BESTART

    Chris

  3. Re: Ultrium drive not recognized

    It's a new installation with a new HP Ultrium drive

    When I rename mm to mm.old I get an error "error obtaining media server configuration
    options" in Backup Exec.

  4. Re: Ultrium drive not recognized

    OK, in that case, probably best to go back to your original MM folder..

    Once you have done that, type LOAD BEDIAG at the server console which
    will generate BEDIAG.FAX in the sys:\bkupexec folder. Can you remove
    all the BE serial numbers and then post it here.

    Chris

    Here it is.

    ; This is a sample of the slp configuration file.
    ; Two types of entries can be made: 1) DA entries, 2) SA Register Filters.
    ;
    ; The DA entry allows static configuration of a known DA. This would be
    used
    ; when the DA was out of multicast range and DHCP was not being used to

    ; configure the DA.
    ; The static DA configuration format is as follows 'DA , '.
    ; The first word must be "DA". The addr type is the address type. Currently,
    only
    ; IPV4 has been defined. IPV6 will be defined in the future. The addr
    is
    ; the address specified.
    ;
    ; The following is an example of a static DA.
    DA IPV4, 172.16.0.6
    ;
    ; The SA Register Filter would be used when the administrator wanted all
    services
    ; of a specific service type being mapped to a single scope. For example,

    ; the administrator wanted all "lpr" printers being registered to scope
    "printer".
    ; The format is as follows: 'REGISTER TYPE "" to SCOPE " name>"'.
    ; The parser will look for REGISTER, TYPE, and SCOPE as keywords followed
    by quote on
    ; a single line. Example:
    ;
    ; REGISTER TYPE "lpr" to SCOPE "eng"
    ;
    ; The last line must contain a line feed and char return. A semi-colon
    specifies a
    ; comment.

    Not good news I'm afraid. I suspect that this is the problem:

    Try loading lsimptnw.ham with the option qtags=off
    load lsimptnw.ham slot=101 qtags=off

  8. Re: Ultrium drive not recognized

    What does the qtags switch do? I'm told that the LSI controller that is imbedded
    is not compatible with netware. Netware needs an alternate part, which by
    chance has an Adaptec chipset in lieu of the LSI chipset. The Adaptec-based
    controller has no problems seeing the drive. This leads me to believe that
    it IS something funky with that LSI driver....The BEDIAG that was posted
    showed that BE saw the drive but the MM database didnt populate. Freaky...

    Had the same problem with an DL 380 server and 232 ultrium

    Ultrium 232 + HP server + LSI SCSI interface are not supported with NW 6.5
    . Took me 3 days to find it out on the HP site. U need aan SCSI interface
    card based on an Adaptec chipset

    Adaptec 29160 should do.
