  1. BackupExec9.1 (1152) Remote agent abends NW6 (LIBC)

    NW6.0 SP4, 2GB RAM, only NSS volumes. BackupExec 9.1 1152.

    Even when no software like Bordermanager or gwia is running:
    When starting remote agent with BESTART then Surestart hangs after checking
    memory and validating (all in green letters!).
    At that moment the server abends (goes to an alternate console). The abend.log
    is:

    Server KSERVER02 halted Saturday, 4 December 2004 16.49.40,282
    Abend 1 on P00: Server-5.60.04: Page Fault Processor Exception (Error code
    00000000)

    Registers:
    CS = 0008 DS = 0010 ES = 0010 FS = 0010 GS = 0010 SS = 0010
    EAX = 00014BC0 EBX = 8D2DAD50 ECX = 00014BC0 EDX = 004EEF00
    ESI = 00000000 EDI = 8D2EDF5C EBP = 00000002 ESP = 8D2EDF3C
    EIP = 80FC4398 FLAGS = 00010206
    80FC4398 3811 CMP [ECX]=?,DL
    EIP in LIBC.NLM at code start +0007C398h
    Access Location: 0x00014BC0
    ...

    At another server (same as the above; NW6 SP4,...), the BackupExec-Mediaserver
    the normal BackupExec 9.1 runs without any problems.
    Please help.

    Regards, Uwe Labs.

    PS: Veritas does not answer on an email with that matter. I just bougth BE
    and I think in such a case, Veritas should help without cost. I feel like
    buying a car and got a car without wheels.

    So, is this a Remote Agent that you're starting?
    Did you update the RA when you installed build 9.1.1152?
    Try this TN (I know it says resolved in build 1067.2, but try anyway):
    http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/247094.htm

    Ok, so did you try http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/247094.htm
    anyway? Just humour me and have a go please....

    Yes, I updated both BackupExec *and* the remote agent.
    In fact, remote agent is new for the server. Both server have a Caldera-DOS
    in the C-partition and not WinDos.
    I also tried to start RA with no other software started on this server: same
    negative result.
    Every NLM on this server is also running at the other server (with same versions),
    which works fine with BE.

    I know, like I say, just humour me please.

    Yes it will work.

    As I said, Caldera DOS is already at the server. But I can try the -b switch
    in BESTART.
    The RA starts with the parameter
    LOAD BKUPEXEC.NLM -tr
    which means "-TR overrides all other switches. If -TR is used, the server
    will function only as a remote server". So the question is, if "-bC:\NWSERVER"
    is able to work?
    I will test it anyway, but I will have to wait until weekend.

  7. Re: BackupExec9.1 (1152) Remote agent abends NW6 (LIBC)

    Make sure your bestart.ncf includes the following the following switch
    when loading bkupexec.nlm:

    -bc:\nwserver

    So that it will read (for example):

    LOAD SYS:\BKUPEXEC\NLMS\BKUPEXEC.NLM -bc:\nwserver -tl -aa -dy -tc -tj
    -s %1 %2

    It should not abend the server anymore when starting backup exec.

    Hope that helps.

    Sorry Uwe, didn't see others had suggested the same.
