    Installing aborts with

    Unable to size BE_DISK.1.1

    ???

  2. Re: BE evaluation

The message: "UNABLE TO DETERMINE FILE SIZE OF BE_DISK1" is caused by attempting
to install the Backup Exec software incorrectly.
Installation of the software can be accomplished several different ways:

    1. The Backup Exec CD can be mounted as a NetWare Volume and installation
can be done from the backup server.
    2. The Backup Exec CD can be mounted on a workstation and used to create
installation Diskettes. The Diskettes are then used for the installation
of the program on the server.
    3. The Backup Exec CD can be mounted on a workstation and the contents of
the SVRINST directory can be copied to a TEMP directory (called anything
but BKUPEXEC) on the SYS: Volume of the Backup Server. Once copied to the
Backup Server's SYS:\TEMP directory, the LOAD SYS:\TEMP\BEINSTL command is
executed to begin the installation of the program.
    4. The Backup Exec Evaluation/Update Program file can be downloaded from
the Seagate Software FTP site and placed into a TEMP directory on the server.
A workstation is used to login to the server's TEMP directory, then the downloaded
file is executed from a workstation causing it to self extract. Once expanded
in the Backup server's TEMP directory, the LOAD SYS:\TEMP\BEINSTL command
is entered from the backup server console to begin the installation of the
    program.
The message "UNABLE TO DETERMINE FILE SIZE OF BE_DISK1" is displayed when
an installation using method #3 or #4 is done incorrectly. The message is
caused by attempting to perform the installation from the C:\TEMP directory
    on the DOS partition.
The program MUST be executed from a NetWare Volume TEMP directory. Once
the installation files are moved to the Servers SYS: Volume and placed into
a TEMP directory, the installation will execute correctly.

    Acknowledgments:
