  1. why does tape rotation keeps getting corrupted?? argh

I'm ready to tear my hair out regarding tape rotation.
For awhile, tape rotation worked great. Then, in the past month, I have had
to create 3 new tape rotations and then see it get corrupted. WHYYYY???
Should I install the latest build? If I do, will I then have to delete
filesys.nlm before I restart the server? I got burned on that a couple of
months ago when I upgraded to the multiserver. Their support (Veritas)
which used to be incredible, now bites and the book, jeez, forget about it.
    Useless.

    Amy:
    What version of BE - 7.x, 8.0.x, or 8.5.x?
I was told from Veritas tech support that they do not recommend
the tape rotation option. They recommend a manual setup of a tape
    rotation option.
I have my bit, too, about Veritas "tech support".
If you have a question on how to do the manual option,
e-mail me and I'll try to assist in my spare time.

Is this a widespread problem with tape rotation getting corrupted? I have
serious problems with it. The symptoms I see are: Tape rotation jobs not
being consistently placed in the job queue, and thus not being run. The problem
seems to be rather random, some jobs get run, not others. I am running BE
    8.5.191, on Netware 5.1SP1.

I never had any problems running Tape Rotation in BE 7.5 or 8.0, but since
I upgraded to 8.5, TR has never worked reliably.

I know what you mean. I worked with 7.5 and it worked great.
"Tech Support " suggested I install the latest patch, "maybe" that would
work with the tape rotation to become reliable. I'm getting close to doing
that or following Phil's advice and doing tape rotation manually.

I also have this problem - we are trialling Backup exec with our new compaq
tape library but its been 2 weeks and we aren't getting very far - the tape
rotation oprion is not working and is extremely complicated Arcserve and
its autopilot is looking execeptionally promising at this point in time.

Environment is latest build of Backup Exec, Netware 5.1 and service pack
    2a.

I have 8.5. That's so comforting to have them stand behind their product in
    that manner.

I don't have a fix.... except we do a manual rotation.... But I thought I
would comment... with 8.5.187 the filesys thing is fixed.

Allthough I DO still have some SCSI bus timeout issues... having to run an
initial autoexec.ncf from the dos volume and such....

Ya gotta love it when "the company" dictates your backup solution

The last two times I had a recurrence of this, the problem was low
server RAM. Where are your cache buffers running? What about disk space
(this used to not be a real issue, when there was at least 10% free
space, but now with NW 5 and - Heaven help us - the swap file, Novell
now recommends setting the low volume warning threshhold to 1024MB!!)?

I've given up, I'm going to run a manual tape rotation.
I'm pretty sure I'm ok there.
    I'll double check that, however.
