  1. Errors in log file (BE 8.5)

    Good day!

We have Novell NetWare 5.1 server with Backup Exec 8.5 installed.
After reading the log files of our daily backups I found that some operations
always has errors while processing. Below there are some strings from typical
log file (in string where NetWare license number is, there is 000's instead
of real numbers. Sorry for odd privacy.):

    Please tell me:
    1) Will this errors make a problems with restoring data from tape?
    2) How to solve this problem? All backups are made from Admin account with
maximum rights (It is really strange - why cannnot I backup Licence Services
    - 'Insufficient privilege'?).

Thanks in advance and best regards.

  2. Re: Errors in log file (BE 8.5)

The license services errors are kind of by design. Novell has very tight
restrictions in NDS on creating and copying the license information. Every
backup application that I know of has exactly the same problem when backing
    up NDS.

The normal workaround when restoring a system is to restore everything except
the licenses... then install the licenses from the license files by running
SETUPNLS. Note that the license floppies can be copied and the files on
the license disk can be stored on your network (where they will be backed
up by BE). You'll need to retain the license keys to enable the licenses...
copies of this information should be stored with your backup tapes.

The skipped files in the previous session just mean that they were already
open on your server when BE attempted to back them up. Unless you have the
Open Files Option loaded, it will not back up these files. They all look
like NDPS, log, and temporary files, so I wouldn't worry too much about them.
If you have connected printers 24x7 and NDPS running, it is not a stretch
that these files are open. If you feel it is important to get the NDPS files,
then set up an NCF file to shut down NDPS and run that script just before
the backup job starts, then run one to restart NDPS after the job ends.

    Good luck...
