Thread: Lost, non-existant backup set

  1. Lost, non-existant backup set

Help! Backup job completes but the backup set on the media is empty!

Config is Win 2K Pro with Toshiba DVD-RAM SD-W2002 running Backup Exec
    Desktop Pro 4.61.

The report below shows that the job completed fine:

    __________________________________________________ _________

    Job Name: All user data

    Backup Job Started - 15/02/2002 19:31:34
    Backup Device: TOSHIBA DVD-RAM SD-W2002 Drive (E
Backup Product: VERITAS Backup Exec Desktop 4.61 100B54B
    Backup Media: DVDRAM 003A - 15/02/2002 19:31
System Registry, COM+ Class Registration, Operating System, and Boot files
    have been backed up.
    Processed File Count: 10,789
    Total Bytes After Compression: 3,619,599,858
    Total Bytes Before Compression: 4,192,487,359
    Operation Completed - Yes
    Backup Job Ended - 15/02/2002 20:34:34
    Compare Job Started - 15/02/2002 20:34:46
    Backup Media: DVDRAM 003A - 15/02/2002 19:31
    Processed File Count: 10,789
    Total Bytes Before Compression: 4,192,487,359
    Operation Completed - Yes
    Compare Job Ended - 15/02/2002 21:07:49

    __________________________________________________ _________

Even the compare portion of the job completed with no errors. However, I
checked the backup by using Tools-Media-Identify which showed nothing on the
DVD-RAM media. So I tried restoring a file from the media by using the media
view of the restore tab with the following result:

    __________________________________________________ _________

    Job Name: Restore

    Restore Job Started - 15/02/2002 22:13:00
    Backup Device: TOSHIBA DVD-RAM SD-W2002 Drive (E
Backup Product: VERITAS Backup Exec Desktop 4.61 100B54B
    Backup Media: DVDRAM 003A - 15/02/2002 19:31
Error: The set requested is no longer on this media. Unable to continue
    this operation.
    Operation Completed - No ( Cancelled )
    Restore Job Ended - 15/02/2002 22:13:08

    __________________________________________________ ______________

So confirming that no backup was actually written!

Any help would be really helpful.
