Hardy 32-bit --> 64-bit? - Ubuntu

This is a discussion on Hardy 32-bit --> 64-bit? - Ubuntu ; I'm running 8.0.4 32-bit on an AMD 4000+ 64-bit CPU and was wondering if I could just "upgrade" to the 64-bit Hardy or would a clean install be best?...
