Thread: Updates not Downloadable

  1. Updates not Downloadable

Today I tried to install the 158 (or so) updates available for 8.04
(already updated with approx 400 updates from the alpha-6 .iso).

Several of these updates (about 28 in number) were not downloadable
(tried this twice). The install halts with a "continue ot ignore"
    message.

What's going on? There seems to be a discontinuity between what
update-manager thinks is available, and what is actually there on the
    servers.

Ms Penguin here. Look the fish tend to swim. They do not stay in the same
place. Also other Penguins and sharks tend to eat them.

In short, when any version is in development things change with the position
    of the sun.

The alpha and beta releases are to find the bugs.

    So yes, you assumption that

" There seems to be a discontinuity between what
update-manager thinks is available, and what is actually there on the
    servers."

    is probably correct.

The term *stable* release is often heard/read in the Linux world. Wish to
see if you can find a bug, try the alpha and beta releases.

Can not stand the heat, then go fishing with Ms Penguin.

How do you do update? What is the message?

I just did apt-get update; apt-get safe-upgrade and everything worked
    as always.

I'm not doing the explicit update, but telling Ubuntu to download and
install the updates that it finds automatically. You know the little
applet icon that shows up in thge system area of the menu bar.

Shouldn't matter, the applet is just as apt-get a front end for dpkg.

    Really? apt-get safe-upgrade! Not aptitude safe-upgrade?
