Lukewarm review/comments on Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron

"All in all, this release packs some interesting new features and
frameworks, some of which should have been part of any Linux distribution
three years ago. It is quite clearly a beta though, and definitely not
ready yet to be labeled as a 'long term support' release. Let's hope they
take their time to polish the rough edges, and deliver a stable release.
It is needed."

I tried the built in wubi installer, and it failed at virtually the
first hurdle - the fake hard file was created fine, the machine
rebooted as it should, but one of the first (if not the first)
dialogue boxes wanted to know what I wanted to import from an existing
(correctly identified) user ID / windows user.
The option was to select what you wanted to port across, or just hit
forward to continue, but no matter what I did the option was ghosted
out.

FFS, I have no intention of buying osnews media, for they have lost it.
Really, Linux moves forward, at times it is not at it best, rather like an
artist's/groups CDs. But it keeps moving on. A few glitches every so often
is a small price to pay.
BTW osnews.com grab the code and help them fix it.

Not only that, but there is still a month until release. The last
month, traditionally, is when the polish is actually applied.
