If you don't want to be bothered by a certain package update, go into
Synaptic and find the package you presently have installed. Highlight it,
click on "Package" and then check "Lock Version".

That of course is complete cr@p.
I suffer allergic reactions to tobacco smoke so there is one health effect
to start with. I don't suppose I am the only one that gets headaches and
feels ill when there is tobacco smoke about either.
The people that go around claiming there are no effects from secondary
smoking have their eyes closed, probably deliberately.

Compared to the crap that comes out of cars, trucks, buses and
factories, second hand tobacco smoke is insignificant and the people who
bitch about it are anti smoking Nazis that don't pay as much tax as
    smokers do.

Speaking of the Nazi anti smoking laws, I have a friend who chain smokes
and always smokes in supermarkets. I went with him a couple of times and
a fat lady -- for some reason it was always a fat lady -- would come up
to him and in a shrill, loud voice would say "Don't you know that
smoking isn't allowed here!?" He would say, "Really? I'm sorry" and put
out the cigarette. As soon as the fat lady would leave, he would fire up
another smoke and laugh. I suspect your headaches and feeling ill are
psychosomatic and originate from your irrational hatred towards smokers.

Its not a hatred. Smoking is a filthy habit. Smokers could really care
less about anyone else. Case in point- how many fires are started each
year by smokers tossing their Butts? How often do you see snuffed butts
just lying around everywhere? And last but not least smokers stink!

Now you will have the netkops out!.

Anyway people don't drive cars in shops, pubs, etc. and modern cars don't
chuck out the cr@p, its public transport and it is also different to fag
    smoke.

BTW I don't have an irrational hate of smokers, just a hate of smoking. But
I guess the fact that you think its about the people rather than the habit
shows how stupid and biased you really are, you should move to advocacy..
your type fit in well there.

    You finally got something right.

The automobile is almost an ideal killing machine. It attains deadly
velocities whether you're a passenger or pedestrian, and even the most
modern "green" examples spew toxins by the liter which are a so much
more deadly ****tail than any smoker could ever hope to spew that there
really is no comparison. That includes electrics and ethanol burners
by the way, because producing those energies is even more
environmentally unfriendly than burning straight petrol. One week's
driving of any of them is far more deadly to innocent bystanders than
an entire lifetime of second hand smoke.

It's a fact. If you're whining like bitch about smokers and NOT riding
a bicycle exclusively, you're nothing but a whining bitch hypocrite.

    >
    > BTW I don't have an irrational hate of smokers, just a hate of smoking. But

And how exactly do you define hatred directed toward inanimate entities
    as anything but irrational?

You're either too stupid to understand that, or totally self delusional.

More proof that you are a ****ing moron. Allergic reactions are not a
health effect caused by Smoke, nor are they reason to ban anything.
You are allergic to smoke. It is you that has the problem. I am
allergic to pollen, I do not try to have flowers banned from public
    because of it.

The people that go around claiming that there are serious health
effects associated with secondhand smoke have a religion, and refuse
to show or hear any actual evidence on the fact. Hell, even the WHO
refuses to accept the validity of their own work. They still push for
smoking bans in any location possible, regardless of the fact that
they produced the largest piece of evidence in existence that ETS is
not a major threat to anyone's health.

I do not smoke cigarettes, but rather stick to cigars and pipes. I do
not smoke them in bars (really, even before it was banned here)
because I choose to use my tobacco products for contemplation and
relaxation. I have no horse in the race but the truth. You stick
with your feelings. Hell, this is America, feelings rule...

Now enjoy your day, sissy boy...

Here is an interesting experiment that you can do in your own little
neck of the woods. I have done it several times, and it works with a
pipe or a cigar, and probably would with a cigarette as well.

I sometimes will take a pipe or a cigar with me on a bike ride in the
summer. I like to ride an hour or so, go to a nice park by the water
and sit and enjoy a nice smoke while watching people and the scenery.

Anyhow, during these times, I usually have to stop at a store to get a
water or a soft drink. Going into a store, put the unlit smoking
device in your mouth and keep it there. Walk through and get what you
need, and pay attention to the reactions of those around you.

I have had people look at me and cough, wave their hands in front of
their faces, yell at me about how smoking wasn't allowed there, and
one threatened violence, though quickly changed his mind. All of this
over an unlit cigar or pipe. It is all in their minds. They see a
cigar, they smell smoke. Their eyes well up. Their breathing gets
rushed. They cough. The sheeple have been conditioned. Dennis is a
    fine example...

It's all right, though. I'm gonna step away from this. It wasn't
posted here to start a smoking discussion. There are better places
for that. The original post was more informational to point out how
statistics and lies are pretty much the same thing in most cases.
Otherwise, this has no relevance to a Linux group...

As to fires: very few. Most "forest fires" are started by natural
means, a handful by people not taking care of their camp fires, and
    fewer still by butts.

As to litter: Go after the litterers. Someone throwing a butt out of
a car window should be beaten with a stick...

As to smell: That's opinion. I prefer the smell of a fine cigar over
the smell of the crap perfume that so many women wear. Any day.

You have never done that near me!
I can tell the difference between a trouble maker like you and real smoke.
You are just a PIA and should be treated as such.

No but it gives you the chance to spread some lies and insults so why not?

Who said anything about forest fires?
There are many fires started by smokers and their butts. Here is where
your statistics fail. Just this year in a town of about 30,000 we had
3,one burnt down a restaurant. Nobody said it was as much as any other
cause. Just because there are other greater causes you cannot say the
other is not a problem. But they are caused by smokers disregard for
anything but themselves. No I don't think the gov't has the right to
stop you from enjoying yourself in private but these rights don't give
you the right to disregard others. I am using "you" in general not aimed
    at anyone individual.
    My last in this thread.
